Letter to Santa Monica from Farmers Market Victim

Yes, I was a victim of the Santa Monica Farmers Market tragedy on July 16, 2003. WAS…. It has been nearly one month since the accident. I am no longer a victim. I am strong, wise and free.

I write this in order to share my strength with all of the other victims including the families and bystanders who came to our aid. The bystanders and emergency persons had to bear witness to such an unexpected massacre. They too will have lasting images.

You were our angels on that day. Unfortunately, some were taken from us. I think of them and their families daily. I may not know these individuals, but somehow they are a part of me. We all have an intimate connection that will forever remain.

Yes, I shed many tears including tears for the elderly man behind the wheel. I am sure he and his family are suffering greatly.

All I know is that I have had such unconditional love and support from my family and friends. My renewed relationships with everyone has enabled me to see so much in a different light, a light so precious that I share with all of you.

Life is certainly a "circle game." We cannot return or take back what has happened. We can only look ahead now. So let us all hold on together. I know we have the fortitude to do so.

I have returned to my home, Vermont. However, my heart remains open to all of us who were a part of this tragic event.

With all my love and strength that I am able to give, I pay it forward to you all.
